The A4ld just could not handle the daily driving in my BII. I did the Mitsubishi 5 speed (FM146) swap. Here are the pictures and some comments during the swap.

Getting to work. I already have the a4ld out and the clutch and pressure plate installed. Now it was time to deal with the hardest part of this swap. Installation of the pedals. Removal of the seats made this easier.

The E-brake bracket had to be removed and the wiring cover had to go also.                          .

Pedals complete

Here is a picture that shows the difference between the FM145 and FM 146. The 146 is the longer one.

transmission is now in

Next time to remove the floor plate. on my BII the auto shifter was on the column. My t-case was a manual so that hole is already there.

T-case installed and shifter

I had to cut about a 3.5 inch hole for the shifter. Here it is all installed

Now for the wiring. I left the auto plug in instead of hooking up the clutch interlock up. This will let the vehicle start with out pushing in the clutch. On the underside I cut the 5 plug wires and spliced the red/blue and the orange or pink to the neutral safety plug wires. Now the vehicle will start as long as it is in neutral only.

The before and after pictures from the inside.
