2 different style hub sockets. The one on the right works better. The teeth are inside the socket. |

Here is a look at the different pieces between the automatic and manual hubs. The Manual hub(on top) It consists of a inner lock nut, a lock washer, outer locknut, washer, roller washer, outer washer and c-clip The automatic hub has a inner nut, lock wedge, 2 washers, locking mechanism, washer, roller washer, outer washer and c-clip. |
After the wheel and hub is removed you need to remove the C-clip on the axle shaft. I use to screw drivers and tap it off with a hammer. After the C-clip is removed you can pull the washer, roller washer, and inner washer off. Then you have to wiggle and pull the locking mechanism off and the 2 washers behind it. After that is removed take the magnet and place it in the grove on the top of your spindle. You may have to turn the lock nut a little one way or the other so the wedge can be free for the magnet to pull it out. After the wedge is removed then you take off the lock nut. This nut is not very tight; all of them I have removed have been finger tight if that. You now have removed the automatic hubs. I also had removed my calipers to replace the brake pads so I decided to inspect and repack my wheel bearings since I had it apart.
Congratulation you have swapped your hubs
