Welcome to the our camping page.
Make sure to return I will keep updating. We have enjoyed tent
camping for a long time but this year we decided to step up to a Pop Up
camper. We borrowed one a last year and really liked it so this year we
bought a old 1978 Jayco King. It is 12'9" long folded up.
We went and looked at it and knew it would need some work and some TLC.
The guy set it up and we noticed a few rips in the canvas and the back
roof rail was rotting out. The floor was solid and it seemed to us that
this was the one we wanted. I like working on stuff and this was a new
challenge. So we hooked it to the explorer and off we went with it. At
home we go to set it up, so we could fix a few things and clean it up,
well the crank handle breaks off inside the hole with it about half way
up. So I dismantle the front of the camper and take it to a friend that
welds me up a new handle. Now I get it up and snap a few pictures.
The only mattress
There were no
cushions
Most the doors need replaced
The rips and bad wood
After our first outing we discovered that the whole roof was bad. It
rained cats and dogs and the back half of the roof looked like a garden
hose was sticking through it. But at least the canvas and the patches
did not leak.
Below are some pictures of what the King looks like now. The only thing
left to do is rebuild the back wall and install a window air unit. That
will come this winter after we are dome using it for the year.
Bunk end curtians
We made new cushions
New floor and paint.
Below are some links to the other pages I have made on
the repairs and the outings. Hope you enjoy and maybe the tech pages
will help you out in the future.
